How to change Screen Resolution:
This video is showing how to change the screen resolution for the child with visually impaired problems, this makes the screen better quality so the child will be able to make out the icons and text easiler.

This video is showing a video tutorial of how to add tools to the quick access toolbar and also change the background to blue and the text to white, also hidding the ribbon on Microsoft Word

I have been asked to help out a friend by making it easier for her son to work a computer; he is having difficulties using the computer because he has a problem with his eye sight.

I have made changes to my Microsoft Word document to help the woman’s son with visually impaired problems to help him use the software, and be able to see and use all features.

I have minimized the size of the ribbon so the size of the working screen is bigger so he can focus on the whole screen to complete the document. I have also added in the text/font icon to the quick access toolbar so it’s easily accessible since the ribbon has been minimized and all the tools will be hidden. I have also changed the background of the document to a blue colour and the text to white so the text stands out so he can easily see what he is typing or inserting.

Narrator
I have added the Narrator feature which is when you click on a tool or even when typing an automated voice would say loudly what tool you have just chosen or what you have just typed. This would help the child specifically because he has problems with his eye sight and this will keep him along the right lines to complete the task with no errors or spelling mistakes. After clicking on an icon or typing a word the narrator would say the icon or word he just clicked or wrote so he could easily know if he is doing what he wants and not making mistakes.

Magnifier
The magnifier tool would also be useful for the child because if the child was having a problem reading what he has writing or can’t make out a sentence or feature, he could use the magnifier tool to zoom in or out so it’s the whole screen that would focus on what part of the screen you have zoomed in at/clicked on. It’s a very handy tool for people with eye sight problems and its easily usable because the zoom in or out icon is always on the screen so you can zoom at any point to check what a word/sentence says that he was having trouble reading before when the screen was on full screen.

On screen keyboard
The on screen keyboard is also useful for the visually impaired child because it may be easier for them to navigate the mouse when typing and not using the keyboard and pushing button with you fingers. It would be easier for a visually impaired person to get used to a keyboard on the screen rather than typing using a keyboard and pushing buttons with your fingers, in my opinion it would take longer for the child to type using a normal keyboard. A good feature also is that you can also change the size of the online keyboard so it’s easier to see all the letters, figures and functions.

Speech Recognition
Speech recognition is a feature that is available on Ease of Access, and allows the user on the computer to talk to the computer to communicate rather than using the keyboard to type. It learns to recognize and understand you voice/accent so you can communicate with it easily.  Speech recognition turns words into text. This would be useful for the child because it would be easier for him to create documents because he may have trouble making out keys on keyboard.
